BBB was my go-to standup bass until I bought Trilian. Wow, I am baffled by some of the opinions in this thread, specifically comparing BBB's bass to Trilian. Spectrasonics stands as one of the great companies in this field and is worthy of emulation. You should be proud of what you’ve been able to achieve. It doesn’t have Trillian’s instant gratification but it can go places the other acoustic libs can’t.Īnd thanks for all the great products and the price point you are able to deliver them to us. Try it and you’ll see what we’re talking about. It doesn’t have the playability of Trillian but it can be much more expressive – after you spend some time experimenting and tweaking. You might want to pick up the VSL Upright acoustic and check out the tons of articulations for yourself. It doesn’t have the large number of basses available within Trillian – just one that usually does the trick. The NI Scarbee Pre-Bass really opened my ears to what can be done sonically with an electric bass. The players wouldn't know where to even start with the VSL. When they leave I break out the VSL and start the subtle magic. They are all wowed and instantly feel comfortable.

Whenever I have jazzbo's in studio I put up Trillian acoustic and let them jam away to great delight. After all, I purchased it and don't regret it. Not to say that Trillian isn’t a fine product and should be considered heavily as a top ‘go-to’ purchase. But to me, there are just some other libraries that sound better. I know that these players will have a thousand times the amount of street cred than me. They have a ton of chops and they can jam away to their hearts’ content with the great fluency the instruments possess. I’m sure there are all those very talented musicians who you have jam on your demos who enjoy them because of their flexibility. I don’t believe that I’m the only one who has brought this up in the past. In fact I don’t think that EQ does help them that much. While appreciating the wonderful and innovative interface of Trillian and its integration within Omnisphere, IMO the sounds of the acoustic and electric basses are too glossy and I don’t like how the sound sits in the mix.
